My New Music Project

Posted by JDawg00100 - September 5th, 2014

So I've been a really big fan of 80's style electronic music, Hotline Miami was probably my favorite video game soundtracks ever due to it. And I've always wanted to learn how to make that sort of music. Considering I can't do anything but electronic music right now I decided to give FL a try and I've been slowly learning how to use it. I'm not anywhere near comfortable with anything I'm making but for a start I think it's pretty alright. It's kind of funny because most of the time I keep using the same default drums on FL since I need to get around to buying sample packs, but I've been really experimenting with different synth vsts and sounds. It's been a blast! So far I have one song in the making that I only have a preview of. I think for now I am going to post simple previews of songs i'm working on onto Soundcloud and post the full songs on Newgrounds. That way i'm not spamming a bunch of stuff. Anyways if you want to check out my Soundcloud page of my new project here is the link:

I called it RETRODRIVE because I wanted a really stupid but sort of rad name to put my music behind. Anyways tell me what you think, most people don't really believe me when I say I'm trying to make 80's styled electronic music considering i've always done metal music. Lol!

Retro 80s music is awesome! Your song is awesome too, I love the bassline and drums. Plus the whole thing makes me feel nostalgic in all the right ways.
I could feel some Terminator 1 in there too, with that lead string sound at times (also a good thing since that's my favourite soundtrack/theme ever).
If you want some cool things to get started you might want to consider Komplete by Native Instruments. It has some cool toys like FM8 and Massive which I've found really useful for this style of song.
Get in touch if you want any info! :D

Awesome thanks for the info, I will definitely look into it! It's a fun style of music to make, I'm used to making metal music all the time haha.

every day, I'm discovering a bigger and bigger fan base for the genre. It's only been a few months, but I'm already obsessed with it...I remember one of the first songs I heard that conquered me was Abandoned Streets by Jordan F. I was hooked!
I've been making some retarded, amateur chip tunes, for fun, experimenting, but I'm getting an itch to start making a more serious type of music like this. I'll take all tips I can have
